Maturing the K1 Media bio-media is important because a delicate eco-system is naturally developing for the bacteria involved in the nitrification process. K1 Media provides the maximum active surface area for the bacteria to colonise, more than other types of static media. It is this process which removes harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water.

As the K1 Media moves within the filter, it causes the old dead bacteria on the outside to be displaced. This makes space for new younger heavier feeding bacteria to rapidly colonise. Within the wheel is a protected surface which enables colonies of bacteria to naturally follow their lifecycle, of maturing, dying and then fueling the latter stages of the nitrification cycle. K1 Media has been designed to provide the best possible habitat for both young and mature beneficial bacterial colonies.

Unlike foam, matting, or other forms of static filtration media, the K1 Media is designed to move freely within your filter. The constant chaotic movement of the air from your pump, causes the media to self clean and thus requires no maintenance. This allows the filter to reach optimum effectiveness without the disturbance of periodic cleaning, avoiding unnecessary loss of bacteria within the filter.

K1 media is engineered in a neutral bouyancy that allows the media to circulate throughout the Nexus or EasyPod filters with only a minimal water flow.

AWARD WINNING FILTRATION MEDIA

Evolution Aqua revolutionised the Koi market when it brought ground breaking moving bed filtration technology to a koi filter, with Nexus.

• 500m2 per m3 Protected Surface Area

• Dramatically increases the efficiency of filter systems

• Provides a large surface area for bacteria to colonise

• Provides mechanical and biological filtration

• Use in static and moving bed filter systems

K1 MOVING BED TECHNOLOGY

Moving bed media has many advantages over traditional static bed filters including a huge surface area which is always exposed to maximum oxygen and food for the bacteria, self cleaning media as it tumbles, and the world famous protected surface area, enabling bacteria and higher organisms to dwell in their preferred location inside the media, exposed to oxygen and food, but safe from harmful cleaning practices.

Over the last twenty years there has been a wholesale shift over to moving bed technology in pond filters, and Evolution Aqua were the pioneers. No one has much experience or has carried out as much research and development into this important area of biological filtration as Evolution Aqua. Nexus and Eazy Pod use K1 and K1 Micro filter media exclusively, and the filters and filter media are all designed and manufactured in the UK.

Yes, both K1 and K1 Micro are suitable for biological filtration, K1 is usually preferred in biological filters like you would find on a pond. K1 Micro is ideal for static or moving bed filters on aquariums

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF A MOVING BED?

Moving bed media has many advantages over traditional static bed filters including a huge surface area which is always exposed to maximum oxygen and food for the bacteria, self cleaning media as it tumbles, and the world famous protected surface area, enabling bacteria and higher organisms to dwell in their preferred location inside the media, exposed to oxygen and food, but safe from harmful cleaning practices.
