Product Spotlight: Kasco® Macro-Zyme Bacteria

Carol Stacy

What Is It?

·         It is a beneficial bacteria blend of 7 types of hydrophilic (water-loving) bacteria

·         Natural, live, dormant state

·         It is safe: Non-toxic and safe for fish, pets, people

·         No EPA regulations or permits needed.

Why Use It?

·        Facultative anaerobic bacteria – works without oxygen but better with oxygen.  It will work at the bottom with little oxygen.

·         Highly concentrated – formulated at 3 billion CFU’s (colony forming units), up to 6 times the concentration of others

·         Dry – so it saves on shipping with less freeze damage risk

·         No yeast, which artificially boosts CFU’s and does no good in the pond.

·         It has a 2-year shelf life when kept out of the sun and moisture.

How It Works:

·         Reproduces exponentially – doubles every 15 minutes

·         Consumes organics – Carbons, fats, starches, proteins, cellulose, animal waste, leaves, plants

·         50 – 80% of organic material is turned into CO2 and can be vented

·         Reduces muck levels

·         Reduces nutrient levels

·         Reduces odors

·         Lowers BOD (Biological O2 demand)

·         Reduces dissolved organic carbons & hydrocarbon waste

·         Increase clarity

Ideal Conditions:

·         55⁰ F or warmer temperatures

·         pH of 5.5 – 8.5

·         Complete dosages are important

Why Dosage Matters

·         Counts double every 15 minutes, so organisms that eat bacteria are multiplying

·         Proper dosage gives Macro-Zyme a jump on organisms that will eat it and allow more work to be done.

·         It’s a survival race.  For an analogy: Macro-Zyme are sheep.  Organisms that eat Macro-Zyme are the wolves.  The more sheep, the longer it takes for the wolves to eat them all
